10 min

🎯 What You'll Learn

You will practise reading short sentences smoothly, building your reading fluency.

🌟 Let's Start

Amina reads three words: "The... cat... sat." Now she reads them smoothly: "The cat sat." The second time sounds much better! Reading smoothly means not stopping too long between words. Let us practise.

📚 New Concept

Reading fluently means reading smoothly, at a good speed, with expression.

Read these sentences. First slowly, then smoothly:

  1. "The dog is big."
  2. "I can run fast."
  3. "She has a red bag."
  4. "The cat sat on the mat."
  5. "I like to eat fish."
  6. "The bus is at the stop."
  7. "He got a pen from the shop."
  8. "The sun is hot and I am glad."

Tips for smooth reading:

  • Read each sentence twice — the second time will be smoother.
  • Point to each word with your finger as you read.
  • Try to look at the next word while you are saying the current word.
  • Pause briefly at full stops (periods) — that is where the sentence ends.

🎮 Let's Practice

  1. Read smoothly: "The hen had ten chicks."
  2. Read smoothly: "I went to the shop to get a bun."
  3. Read smoothly: "The frog sat on a log in the pond."
  1. "The hen had ten chicks." — Read it twice to be smoother!
  2. "I went to the shop to get a bun." — This is a longer sentence, well done!
  3. "The frog sat on a log in the pond." — Blend words: frog, pond. Excellent!

💡 Remember

Fluent reading means reading smoothly without long stops between words. Read each sentence twice — the second time will always be better!
