🎯 What You'll Learn
You will practise reading longer sentences with more words and ideas.
🌟 Let's Start
You have been reading short sentences. Now let us try longer ones! Longer sentences tell you more. "The dog ran." is short. "The big black dog ran fast to the gate and jumped over it." tells you much more!
📚 New Concept
Read these longer sentences:
- "The man went to the shop and got a bag of rice and some fish."
- "I had a bath, put on my dress, and then I went to school."
- "The big red bus was full, so we had to stand and hold on tight."
- "Mum said I must shut the door, wash the dish, and then sit and rest."
- "The thin cat sat on the mat and did not want to get up."
When reading longer sentences:
- Take a small breath at a comma (,).
- Stop at a full stop (.).
- Break the sentence into chunks: "The man went to the shop / and got a bag of rice / and some fish."
- Think about what the sentence means as you read it.
Try reading with feeling:
- "Stop! Do not run!" — say this with urgency.
- "I am so glad!" — say this with happiness.
