🎯 What You'll Learn
You will see that multiplication is the same as repeated addition — adding the same number again and again.
🏪 Market Story
Chidi buys 4 sachets of pure water. Each sachet costs ₦20. He could add: ₦20 + ₦20 + ₦20 + ₦20 = ₦80. Or he could multiply: 4 × ₦20 = ₦80. Both give the same answer, but multiplication is faster!
📝 Let's Learn
Repeated addition means adding the same number multiple times. Multiplication is a shortcut for this.
- ₦20 + ₦20 + ₦20 = 3 × ₦20 = ₦60
- ₦10 + ₦10 + ₦10 + ₦10 + ₦10 = 5 × ₦10 = ₦50
- ₦5 + ₦5 + ₦5 + ₦5 = 4 × ₦5 = ₦20
Example 1: 3 + 3 + 3 + 3 + 3 = 5 × 3 = 15.
Example 2: ₦50 + ₦50 + ₦50 = 3 × ₦50 = ₦150.
Example 3: 7 + 7 = 2 × 7 = 14.
✏️ Practice Questions
- Write as multiplication: ₦10 + ₦10 + ₦10 + ₦10 + ₦10 + ₦10 = ?
- Write as repeated addition: 4 × 8 = ?

- 6 × ₦10 = ₦60.
- 8 + 8 + 8 + 8 = 32.
- ₦30 + ₦30 + ₦30 + ₦30 + ₦30 = 5 × ₦30 = ₦150.
💡 Remember
Multiplication is a shortcut for repeated addition. Instead of adding ₦20 four times, just say 4 × ₦20 = ₦80. It saves time!
