🏪 Market Story
Emeka goes to the small provision kiosk near his school. He buys a sweet for ₦3 and a chewing gum for ₦5. The shopkeeper says, "That's ₦3 plus ₦5." Emeka thinks... 3 + 5 = 8. "₦8, right?" he says. The shopkeeper nods. Emeka hands over the money feeling clever!
📝 Let's Learn
When you buy things at the market, you need to add prices together. Let's practise with small amounts.
Tip: Start with the bigger number and count on. For 3 + 5, start at 5 and count on 3: 6, 7, 8.
Example 1: A lollipop costs ₦4 and a mint costs ₦6. Total: ₦4 + ₦6 = ₦10.
Example 2: Pencil costs ₦7 and eraser costs ₦2. Total: ₦7 + ₦2 = ₦9.
Example 3: Funke buys 3 sweets at ₦2 each. Wait — that's ₦2 + ₦2 + ₦2. Let's add step by step: ₦2 + ₦2 = ₦4, then ₦4 + ₦2 = ₦6.
