🎯 What You'll Learn

You will learn to summarize — tell the most important parts of a passage in just a few sentences.

🌟 Let's Start

Imagine your friend asks, "What was that story about?" You would not tell them every single word — you would tell them the most important parts. That is summarizing! A good summary is short and includes only the main points.

Story: Emeka's Garden

Emeka wanted to grow vegetables in his backyard. He asked his grandfather for help. Grandfather showed him how to dig the soil and make rows. Emeka planted tomato seeds and pepper seeds. Every morning before school, Emeka watered the plants. Sometimes the sun was very hot and the plants looked tired. Emeka gave them extra water on those days. After eight weeks, the plants had grown big. Red tomatoes and green peppers hung from the plants. Emeka picked them and gave some to his neighbours. His grandfather said, "I am proud of you, Emeka. You worked hard and did not give up." Emeka felt happy.

How to summarize:

  1. Find the main idea: What is the passage mostly about?
  2. Find the key events: What are the most important things that happened?
  3. Say it in 2-3 sentences.

Summary: "Emeka wanted to grow vegetables. With his grandfather's help, he planted seeds and watered them every day. After eight weeks, the vegetables grew and Emeka shared them with his neighbours."
