You will learn to change one sound in a word to make a completely new word.

🌟 Let's Start

Watch this trick: cat. Change the /k/ to /b/. Now you have bat! Change the /b/ to /h/. Now you have hat! By changing just one sound, you make a whole new word.

📚 New Concept

Sound substitution means swapping one sound for another to make a new word.

Change the first sound:

  • map — change /m/ to /t/ = tap
  • bin — change /b/ to /p/ = pin
  • run — change /r/ to /s/ = sun
  • hot — change /h/ to /d/ = dot

Change the last sound:

  • cap — change /p/ to /t/ = cat
  • man — change /n/ to /d/ = mad
  • pig — change /g/ to /n/ = pin

Change the middle sound:

  • cat — change /a/ to /u/ = cut
  • big — change /i/ to /a/ = bag
  • hot — change /o/ to /i/ = hit
