🎯 What You'll Learn

You will listen to a story and practise predicting — guessing what might happen next.

🌟 Let's Start

Have you ever guessed what would happen in a story before it happened? That is called predicting. Good readers and listeners think ahead. Let us try it with Bola's story.

📚 The Story

Today was Bola's first day at a new school. She felt nervous. What if the other children did not like her? What if the teacher was strict?

Bola's mother held her hand and walked her to the school gate. "You will be fine," Mama said. "Be brave and smile."

Bola walked into the classroom. All the other children were already sitting down. The teacher, Mrs. Okafor, looked up and smiled. "Welcome! You must be Bola. Class, please welcome your new friend."

The children clapped. A girl in the front row waved and pointed to an empty seat next to her. "Sit here!" the girl whispered. Her name was Chioma.

At break time, Chioma said, "Come, I will show you the playground." Bola smiled. Maybe this new school would not be so bad after all.

By the end of the day, Bola had made three new friends. When her mother picked her up, Bola said, "Mama, I love my new school!"

🎮 Let's Practice

  1. At the beginning, how did Bola feel? What did you predict would happen?
  2. Was the teacher strict or kind? How do you know?
  3. If the story continued to the next day, what do you predict Bola would do?

  1. Bola felt nervous. You might have predicted she would make friends because the title is about her first day (not her worst day!).
  2. The teacher was kind. She smiled and welcomed Bola to the class.
  3. Bola would probably go to school happily and play with her new friends, especially Chioma.

💡 Remember

Predicting means thinking about what might happen next. Use clues from the story to make smart guesses!
