🎯 What You'll Learn

🌟 Let's Start

Funke loves to sing songs. One of her favourite songs goes: "Rain, rain, go away, come again another day." Do you hear how away and day sound alike at the end? Those are rhyming words! Rhyming words are fun — they make songs and poems sound beautiful.

📚 New Concept

Rhyming words are words that sound the same at the end.

  • cat — hat — bat — mat all rhyme! They all end with the -at sound.
  • sun — fun — run — bun all rhyme! They all end with the -un sound.
  • ball — tall — wall — fall all rhyme! They all end with the -all sound.

How to check if words rhyme: Say the two words. Do they sound the same at the end? If YES, they rhyme!

  • Do dog and log rhyme? Say them: dog... log... YES! They both end with -og.
  • Do fish and tree rhyme? Say them: fish... tree... NO! They sound different at the end.
  • Do man and pan rhyme? Say them: man... pan... YES! They both end with -an.
