Long Vowel Patterns

Long vowels say their name! Here are the patterns:

  • a_e (silent e): cake, make, lake
  • i_e (silent e): bike, time, line
  • o_e (silent e): home, bone, rope
  • ee: tree, see, free
  • ea: read, meat, clean

Practice: Read These Words

  1. The snake lives near the lake.
  2. I need more time to finish.
  3. The tree gives us shade.
  4. We eat rice at home.

Nigerian Context

Many Yoruba, Igbo, and Hausa words have clear vowel sounds too. English vowels can be tricky because the same letter makes different sounds. Practice listening for the long sound!
